Kenya on Monday reported its first case of Ebola disease after a Somali man who had just arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo died and was buried at Langata Cemetery.
The Somali man travelled from the DRC to Uganda by road, then took a Jambojet flight to Kenya.
The Ebola screening centre at JKIA failed to capture him due to negligence, and the man moved to Nairobi Hospital where he was diagnosed with the Ebola Bundibugyo virus, which has no cure. He died two days later.
President William Ruto’s government has begun announcing measures to curb the spread of the deadly Ebola strain to Kenyans. One of the proposals is to restrict the movement of Kenyans and ban public gatherings such as political rallies, churches and mosques.
However, Kenyan opposition leaders have watered down the government’s plans, terming the reported case of Ebola in Kenya a hoax.
Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa said that after Ruto realised he is defeated in the 2027 presidential poll, he wants to cut the movement of opposition leaders so that he can be left alone in the field.
Here is a screenshot of what Karungo wa Thangwa, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, wrote.
