A 68-year-old woman identified as Teresia Mwikali Amukoa has been arrested by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) over alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking.
According to reports, detectives acted on a tip-off and mounted an ambush at the main entrance of Mutete Flats in Athi River, where the suspect was intercepted while riding pillion on a motorcycle.
At first glance, she appeared like an ordinary elderly woman heading home from the market, but detectives suspected otherwise.
A quick search conducted on the suspect revealed three handbags stuffed with packages of Cannabis Sativa instead of groceries.
The discovery prompted detectives to extend the operation to her residence for further investigations.
During the search at her house, officers recovered additional packages of the prohibited substance concealed inside a basket and a transparent polythene bag.
Authorities believe the suspect may have been involved in a wider narcotics distribution network within the area.
Mwikali was immediately arrested and taken to Muthaiga Police Station, where she is currently being processed ahead of her arraignment in court.
The recovered narcotics have since been secured as exhibits as investigations continue.
