Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised concerns about his security, claiming that his life is in danger ahead of the Gen Z anniversary protests scheduled for Thursday, June 25.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Gachagua alleged that a team of highly trained police officers had been deployed near his residence and tasked with infiltrating planned demonstrations in Karatina, Nyeri County.
According to the former deputy president, the 15-member squad is linked to a 12-member group he previously accused of attacking his supporters during an incident at Witima ACK Church in January this year.
Gachagua claimed that despite the officers being identified following the earlier incident, they were later promoted and assigned duties targeting individuals critical of President William Ruto’s administration.
He further stated that he fears for his safety, alleging that he was the intended target during the January church incident.
The former deputy president also accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat of directing the squad to move to his Wamunyoro home and carry out what he described as an unfinished mission.
“Since I was targeted for assassination by this killer squad in church, I am apprehensive; probably Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen and DIG Lagat have instructed them to proceed to Wamunyoro and complete the job they failed to do in January. In whatever situation, God is in control,” Gachagua stated.
