Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested suspected goons who were allegedly hired by Langata Member of Parliament Felix Adiwour, popularly known as Jalang’o, to cause chaos and mayhem on the streets of Nairobi on Thursday.
The arrests come just a day after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua issued a stark warning on Wednesday, alleging that the state had put in motion a scheme to hire goons who would infiltrate the Gen Z anniversary demonstrations and use them as cover to loot, maim, and kill young people in the city.
Like a father speaking to his children, Gachagua pleaded with the youth to stay home, telling them plainly that the streets on Thursday were unsafe and that those in power had already made their plans.
Most of the youth listened. Millions stayed home, turning June 25th into a silent but powerful national statement that left the government rattled and the economy visibly weakened for the day.
However, even with the youth largely off the streets, DCI officers in Nairobi moved in and arrested individuals who had allegedly been mobilized and deployed to destroy the city.
In a video that has since circulated widely, the arrested individuals were questioned by police officers about who had sent them, and their responses pointed indirectly but unmistakably towards Jalang’o as the man behind their deployment.

Jalang’o is a close ally of President William Ruto. It is among the Nairobi MPs long accused of maintaining networks of hired muscle used to counter opposition activities and disrupt Gen Z demonstrations in the capital.
Gachagua’s intelligence was right. The goons were real, the plan was real, and had the youth taken to the streets, Thursday could have ended in tragedy.
