Prominent lawyer Ndegwa Njiru was arrested by police and taken to Kasarani Police Station following an incident on Thika Road.
In a post shared on his official X account, Njiru said he was being accused of obstruction after his vehicle reportedly broke down along the busy highway.
According to the lawyer, he was taken to Kasarani Police Station, where he was later booked and spent the night.
Njiru has been a vocal critic of President William Ruto’s administration and a staunch supporter of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He has also risen to prominence as one of the opposition’s leading lawyers, frequently appearing alongside opposition leaders at political rallies and other public events.
Njiru was also among the lawyers representing Gachagua in the court cases challenging his impeachment.
One of DCP supporters visited Ndegwa and wrote, “I condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the targeted arrest of counsel Ndegwa Njiru.I hope William Ruto is satisfied that Ndegwa is spending the night at Kasarani Police Station.Ironically, locking him up may achieve the opposite of what was intended.The entire cell is now chanting “Ruto Must Go,” and by the time the inmates are released, you may well have created a new group of WANTAM ambassadors.Sometimes, repression amplifies the very message it seeks to silence.
