Gender Principal Secretary Ann Wang’ombe has visited a man who is receiving treatment at Nyeri Level 5 Hospital following a reported incident in which he was allegedly set on fire.
The PS visited Mr. Peter Macharia in hospital and expressed concern over his condition, noting that his case highlights the fact that men can also be victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
“Peter’s situation is a stark reminder that men, too, can be victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Their experiences must be recognised, their voices heard and their right to protection, dignity and justice upheld,” Wang’ombe said.
The PS emphasized that the Government has zero tolerance for all forms of violence, regardless of the gender of the victim.
She said the Government remains committed to protecting survivors and ensuring that those who violate the law are held accountable.
“I assured the public that the relevant agencies are pursuing the matter with urgency and those found responsible will be held fully accountable in accordance with the law,” she said.
