Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has found himself at the centre of growing public concern following a series of health-related revelations that have left many Kenyans worried about his well-being.

Earlier this year, Uhuru made a deeply personal disclosure, announcing that he had been diagnosed with cancer. Rather than retreating into silence, he used the moment to speak directly to others living with the disease, encouraging them to hold onto their faith and assuring them that everything would be well.

But the concern did not end there. Last week, Uhuru once again sparked anxiety among his supporters and political allies after revealing that he had fallen ill shortly after returning from an overseas trip.

He disclosed while addressing Jubilee Party supporters virtually during a political meeting held in Narok County. The former head of state had been widely expected to attend the gathering in person but instead joined remotely, with his absence explained by a sudden bout of illness.

What made the moment particularly striking was how he sounded. Kenyatta spoke with a noticeably strained voice throughout the virtual address, immediately raising alarm among supporters who had looked forward to seeing him in person. Though he acknowledged being unwell, he stopped short of revealing the exact nature of his condition.

The news spread quickly, and what followed was an overwhelming wave of prayers, goodwill messages, and recovery wishes from Kenyans across social media platforms, with many expressing heartfelt hope that the former president would bounce back fully and return to his public engagements.

A Family Legacy Back in the Spotlight

The conversations around Uhuru’s health have also reignited public curiosity about the Kenyatta family’s broader legacy—both political and personal.

Much of that attention has settled on the famous Ichaweri Estate, nestled in Gatundu South, Kiambu County. Historically tied to Kenya’s founding president Jomo Kenyatta, the estate remains one of the most recognised family residences in the country and continues to stand as a symbol of the Kenyatta family’s deep and enduring influence in Kenya’s political and economic story.

Public interest in the estate sharpened recently after a content creator reportedly filmed near its entrance, only to be stopped by security personnel guarding the compound—an incident that quickly made the rounds online and reignited debate about the family’s closely guarded private life.

Beyond the estate, online conversations have also turned to the family’s extensive business interests, including Heritage Hotels and the Kenyatta Trust—the latter being well known for its work in supporting students through scholarships and mentorship programmes.

For now, Kenyans continue to watch and wait, hopeful that the former president’s health improves and that he will soon be back on his feet.
