A motorist has recounted a terrifying encounter with an armed gang that attempted to carjack him along the Lindi Bypass in the early hours of the morning.
According to the man, the incident occurred at around 3:45 a.m. when he opted to use the bypass, which he described as his usual and most convenient route.
He said about five young men suddenly emerged and blocked his vehicle.
The suspects were reportedly armed, with two standing directly in front of the car while the others tried to force open the doors.
Fortunately, the vehicle’s child locks prevented the attackers from gaining access.
The motorist managed to accelerate and escape the scene, although the suspects damaged the rear door of his vehicle during the ordeal.
“Alhamdulillah, I made it home safely. Material things can be repaired, but this could have ended very differently,” he said.
He condemned the attackers for terrorising innocent motorists and expressed hope that they would eventually be brought to justice.
The incident serves as a reminder for motorists to remain vigilant, especially when travelling along isolated roads during the night or in the early morning hours.
