Four suspected armed robbers were shot dead during a police operation along the Eldoret–Kiplombe Road in Uasin Gishu County shortly after midnight on Monday.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers on patrol responded to intelligence reports of six armed suspects dressed in military-style attire who were allegedly robbing members of the public.

Police said that when officers confronted the suspects at Greenfield Junction, the gang allegedly opened fire, prompting a shootout.

Four of the suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange, while two others escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the fugitives.

During the operation, officers recovered a loaded pistol, breaking tools, five mobile phones, manila ropes, four identification cards, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to the NPS, the suspects are believed to have been linked to a series of armed robberies across the North Rift region, including Eldoret, Kitale, Kapenguria, Nandi, and Marakwet.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as detectives pursue the two suspects who remain at large.
