A Parklands-based tycoon, Ashish Sha, has been linked to allegations of a stolen-goods network that has reportedly been operating for more than 20 years, with equipment stolen from various churches among the items allegedly passing through his hands.
In one incident, members of a Donholm-based church whose camera equipment had been stolen reportedly went to Sha’s premises posing as customers in a bid to trace their missing items.
To their surprise, the first item they spotted was a sound card.
When they checked its serial number, they discovered that it matched the one belonging to the sound card stolen from their church.
The discovery reportedly raised suspicions that the missing church equipment had found its way to the tycoon’s premises.
CCTV footage reportedly showed one of the suspected thieves, identified as David Simiyu, stealing from a church in Donholm before eventually taking the equipment to Sha’s home.
The case that eventually landed Sha before the Thika High Court involved DJ Macdee, whose car was reportedly broken into in broad daylight, with an audio mixer worth Sh350,000 stolen.
Days later, a friend alerted Macdee after spotting an audio mixer being advertised for sale online.
To his surprise, he discovered that it was the same mixer that had been stolen from his car.
Sha was arrested and later released on bond, with the case still active in court.
