The hospitality industry in Migori County is mourning the sudden death of prominent businesswoman Corazon Agatha Kaveza, who reportedly passed away in her sleep at the age of 37.
Kaveza, who served as the Treasurer of the Migori Hotel Owners and Bars Association, was remembered as a dedicated entrepreneur, mentor, and pillar of the local hospitality sector.
According to a tribute shared during her funeral service, the late Kaveza was the daughter of the late Prof. Peter Lamuka of the University of Nairobi and Beatrice Lukalo, a retired TSC Director in Migori County.
A brilliant scholar, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science and began her career through internships at Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Madison Insurance, Equity Insurance, CIC Insurance, and Co-operative Bank before venturing into business.
She later established and managed Migori Dayo Hotel, where she built a reputation as a respected entrepreneur.
In addition to the hotel business, she operated a microfinance enterprise that supported small-scale traders in Migori and its environs.
Beyond business, Kaveza was known for her adventurous spirit and love for travel.
She climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and visited several destinations, including Ethiopia, Rwanda, and the Maasai Mara.
The Migori Hotel Owners and Bars Association described her as a talented, forthright, and dependable leader who had been earmarked to become the association’s future chairperson due to her commitment and leadership.
“She was a pillar who diligently brought us together and kept our records. The hospitality community will miss her immensely,” part of the tribute read.
Kaveza leaves behind three young children.
