Questions have emerged over the death of Anthony Ochieng after an X user claimed that the young man was arrested by officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Kasarani Police Station in Githurai.
According to the post, Ochieng was taken into police custody before his death was later reported.
The author of the post disputed the account given by police regarding the circumstances of Ochieng’s death, claiming that officers had said he died in a road accident.
The post, however, raises questions about what happened between Ochieng’s arrest and his death, particularly because the author claims that police officers were among the last people known to have seen him alive.
“Anthony Ochieng was arrested by DCI officers from Kasarani Police Station in Githurai and is now dead,” the post stated.
The author further alleged that police had attributed Ochieng’s death to a road accident but questioned the circumstances surrounding that explanation.
“We know the people who last saw him alive were the police,” the post added.
The claims have sparked calls for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ochieng’s death and for those responsible, if wrongdoing is established, to be held accountable.
The post concluded with a call for justice for Ochieng while also expressing broader concerns about the safety of members of the Luo community.
“Justice for Anthony Ochieng,” the author wrote.
The circumstances surrounding Ochieng’s arrest, the events that preceded his death and the cause of death remain matters requiring independent verification.
