The late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s adopted son, Salah Oketch, has revealed what the ODM leader told him regarding the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the party’s future, particularly in relation to the 2027 presidential election.

Raila Odinga, aged 80, passed away in India, where he was undergoing treatment for a blood clot in his brain.

According to his brother, Dr. Oburu Odinga, Raila had travelled to India for the removal of the blood clot after doctors in Kenya were unable to perform the procedure. Dr. Oburu explained that the clot was successfully removed in Mumbai, after which Raila decided to proceed to Kerala to undergo Ayurvedic treatment.

It was during his stay in Kerala that he suffered a heart attack. He was rushed to Devamatha Hospital in Kochi, where he was pronounced dead on the morning of October 16, 2025.

Throughout his stay in India, Raila was accompanied by his adopted son, Dr. Salah Oketch.

Speaking publicly for the first time about his experiences with Raila during that period, Oketch disclosed that in several of their private conversations, Baba (as Raila was fondly known) assured him that ODM would support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Raila alisema ata endorse Ruto 2027!” Oketch stated.

Here is the video of Dr. Oketch confirming that Baba, the ODM party leader, had indeed endorsed President Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.

🗣️ Dr. Salah Oketch: “It is my responsibility to ensure Baba’s wishes are respected. He told me he wanted to strengthen ODM and endorse Ruto in 2027. I don’t lie — I am a Muslim. Raila’s heart was in the broad-based unity.” pic.twitter.com/YozD7HqXdZ
