President William Ruto’s security has been significantly enhanced following a security breach that occurred about a month ago during a Thanksgiving service for Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs.
During the event, a man carrying a Bible managed to bypass multiple layers of security and briefly gained access to the dais where the President was seated before he was intercepted by security officers.
The dramatic incident raised concerns over presidential security and prompted Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to order investigations and review the operations of the Presidential Protection Unit.
The review resulted in changes within the President’s security team, including the replacement of Presidential Escort Commander Noah Kirwa Maiyo with William Kiptoo Sawe.
A video recorded in Kirinyaga on Monday, where President Ruto was attending official engagements, shows a noticeably tighter security formation around the Head of State.
In the footage, security officers are seen maintaining a close protective perimeter around the President as he moves through the crowd, a sharp contrast to previous public appearances where he interacted more freely with members of the public.
The increased security presence has attracted attention on social media, with many users noting that there now appears to be “no room for chances” when it comes to the President’s safety.
