President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has once again demonstrated its dominance after sweeping all four by-elections held on Thursday.
Voters in Isiolo South Constituency, Muminji Ward, Evurore Ward, and West Kabras Ward turned out to elect their new leaders in contests that were closely watched across the political divide.
In a surprising outcome to some observers, all the seats were clinched by UDA candidates. The results appear to reinforce President William Ruto’s earlier assertion that the united opposition, led by former impeached deputy Rigathi Gachagua, lacks the strength to challenge the ruling party.
In the Isiolo South parliamentary by-election, UDA’s Mohamed Tubi secured victory with 7,352 votes. He defeated his sister, Bina Mohammed, who was vying on a Jubilee Party ticket and garnered 634 votes. National Economic Development Party candidate Isack Abduba Fayo finished third with 44 votes.
UDA’s Duncan Muratia won the Evurore Ward seat after receiving 7,853 votes. He beat Democratic Party of Kenya candidate Albert Muchira, who came second with 1,940 votes.
In Muminji Ward, Peterson Njau emerged victorious with 3,207 votes, ahead of DEB’s Boniface Ngari, who secured 2,232 votes.
Meanwhile, in West Kabras Ward, UDA candidate Elphas Shalakha won the seat with 3,317 votes. His closest rival, DCP’s Bramwel Khaemba, garnered 2,640 votes.
Following the victories, the UDA party issued a statement congratulating its four candidates for winning the by-elections. The ruling party also expressed gratitude to the residents of Isiolo South, West Kabras, Muminji, and Evurore for their support during the mini polls.
“Thank you, Isiolo South Constituency, West Kabras Ward, Muminji Ward, and Evurore Ward, for standing firmly with the United Democratic Alliance in today’s by-elections,” the party stated.
