The Moment A Luo Man Was Shot Dead For Rejecting Ruto’s Sh50 Bribe-Video

A deeply disturbing video has emerged showing the moment a young man was shot and fatally wounded after reportedly rejecting a paltry bribe offered by a government official linked to President William Ruto’s administration.

The incident took place at a youth empowerment forum held in Kairiokoi, which was presided over by Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacob. Over 200 young people had been mobilised to attend the function, but what was billed as an empowerment event quickly descended into tragedy.

According to those present, PS Fikirini Jacob allegedly handed Sh10,000 to be shared among the more than 200 youths who had attended, a figure that works out to roughly Sh50 per person. The insultingly small amount sparked immediate outrage among the youth.

Cecil Ouma, one of the young men who had helped mobilise others for the event, refused to accept the money and approached the PS’s vehicle to demand a more dignified amount. What happened next has left the country in shock. Ouma was pushed away from the vehicle and, moments later, was found with gunshot injuries. He was rushed by locals to Park Road Nursing Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

By Thursday, two firearms had been recovered from the PS’s bodyguards, and Fikirini Jacob had been summoned by police to record a statement in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing.

The killing of Cecil Ouma for daring to demand more than Sh50 at a so-called youth empowerment forum is a grim and devastating symbol of how little this government values the lives of young Kenyans.

Here is the video of the moment Cecil Ouma was pushed from the vehicle and shot, an act that would cost him his life.
