Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have arrested Peter Maingi Kimani, also known as Menelik Kimani, over a video allegedly containing a threatening message directed at President William Ruto.
The suspect is said to have recorded the clip and shared it on his TikTok account earlier this week.
According to the DCI, Kimani was smoked out of his hideout in the Gachage area of Kiganjo, Gatundu South Sub County, where he had allegedly taken refuge after committing the offense. Officers tracked him down and took him into custody without incident.
He is currently undergoing processing and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
In a statement, the DCI reminded members of the public that although freedom of expression is protected under the Constitution, it must be exercised responsibly. The agency cautioned that this right should not be used as a shield to threaten others or undermine their rights.
The Directorate further reiterated that it will not hesitate to take action against the misuse of social media platforms, particularly in cases where posts or videos pose a threat to public peace and national security.
