Fresh controversy has erupted after a youth linked to a group that disrupted a meeting at All Saints Cathedral claimed that they had been sent by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.
The meeting, which was organized to scrutinize and discuss the national budget presented by the CS, was interrupted by a group of individuals who stormed the venue, causing chaos and forcing participants to flee.
In a video circulating online, one of the youths is heard claiming that they had been dispatched to disrupt the gathering.
The allegations have triggered outrage among civil society groups and members of the public, with some calling on CS Mbadi to address the claims and clarify whether he had any connection to the incident.
Critics argue that public participation and scrutiny of the national budget are protected democratic rights that should not be interfered with through intimidation or disruption.
“This youth says that you dispatched them to disrupt a meeting at All Saints Cathedral that was scrutinizing the budget you presented yesterday. Mbadi, you cannot distance yourself from this attack by the goons. You must take responsibility for your actions and for those of the goons who acted at your behest. Public participation and scrutiny of the national budget are our democratic rights,” read part of a statement shared online by KHRC.
