President William Ruto has once again demonstrated his political confidence after his party, the United Democratic Alliance, swept all seats in Thursday’s by-elections, dealing a blow to the united opposition associated with impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Voters in Isiolo South Constituency, Muminji Ward, Evurore Ward, and West Kabras Ward turned out to elect their new leaders in contests that had attracted national attention. The mini polls were closely watched across the political divide, with both sides keen to test their influence on the ground.
In a surprising twist, UDA clinched all the seats in the high-stakes by-elections. The clean sweep has strengthened President Ruto’s earlier assertion that the opposition camp lacks the numerical strength and coordination required to challenge him effectively ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Taking to his official X account shortly after the results were confirmed, Ruto, who is the UDA party leader, described the outcome as a clear indication that the party is firmly on course for 2027. He expressed confidence that UDA is building momentum across the country and projected that the party could secure more than 70 percent in the next presidential contest.
Ruto congratulated the winners and praised UDA members nationwide for remaining loyal and focused.
“Thank you, Isiolo South, West Kabras, Muminji, and Evurore, for standing firmly with the United Democratic Alliance in yesterday’s by-elections. We are firmly on course to building a solid national political party whose vision goes beyond generations as we move Kenya to the first world. Congratulations to Tubi Mohammed of Isiolo South Constituency, Elphas Kainanga Shalakha of West Kabras Ward, Duncan Muratia Nyaga of Evurore Ward, and Peterson Njeru of Muminji Ward for your victory and the confidence the people have shown in you,” Ruto said.
