The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced the arrest of a woman in Mombasa County over the alleged improper use of social media, claiming she published information that posed a potential threat to national security.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the DCI said detectives arrested the suspect, identified as Halima Ngache, also known as Princess Halima, following an intelligence-led operation in the Kazandani area of Mombasa County.
According to the DCI, investigations linked Halima to an X (formerly Twitter) account that allegedly published sensitive information relating to the movements of protected persons.
The agency said the matter is under investigation as a potential threat to national security.
“The suspect, Halima Ngache, also known as Princess Halima, was apprehended after investigations linked her to an X (formerly Twitter) account allegedly used to publish sensitive information relating to the movements of protected persons, an act currently under investigation as a potential threat to national security,” the DCI said.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is undergoing processing pending her arraignment in court.
The DCI reminded members of the public that although the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, that right should be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law.
The agency also urged members of the public to refrain from sharing information that could compromise the safety of protected persons or incite unrest, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding national security.
