President William Ruto is facing mounting scrutiny as he gears up for the 2027 elections, with critics accusing him of trying to “buy” popularity. Analysts say convincing Kenyans to embrace his manifesto has become a monumental challenge—likened to selling pork in Saudi Arabia.
Recent claims suggest Ruto, already criticized for alleged mishandling of youth unrest, is now attempting to manipulate opinion polls to create an illusion of widespread support. A U.S.-based social media commentator even lists him among the world’s most unpopular leaders.
According to insiders, the president’s operatives have reportedly approached several pollsters—including Mizani Africa, Politico, TIFA, and Ipsos Synovate—offering taxpayer money to skew results in his favor.
Mizani Africa, in particular, has drawn attention after publishing a poll showing Ruto ahead in Vihiga County. However, local reports suggest the president actually enjoys minimal backing in Western Kenya, where the electorate is reportedly leaning toward Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya. Critics accuse Mizani Africa of acting as a pawn to confuse voters and manipulate perceptions.
