Senate Speaker Amason Kingi is mourning the death of his long-serving bodyguard, John Lwane Lumumba, who passed away shortly after the two shared what he described as a warm and cheerful conversation.
In a condolence message issued on Thursday, January 1, Kingi eulogised Lumumba as a loyal, disciplined and deeply committed officer who had become more than just a member of his security detail.
He recalled walking alongside Lumumba and chatting lightheartedly, unaware it would be their final interaction.
“Little did I know that those joyful moments would be our last,” the Speaker said, adding that news of Lumumba’s sudden death left him heartbroken.
Lumumba, a senior police officer attached to Kingi’s security team, had served the Speaker with dedication over the years.
Kingi expressed his sympathies to the officer’s family, colleagues and friends, describing his death as a painful loss to all who knew him.
