Langata Member of Parliament Jalango reportedly appeared at the site of a collapsed building in South C while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the lawmaker was immediately confronted by residents and was chased away due to his behavior.
Jalango had visited the site as the area Member of Parliament, only to face the wrath of his constituents.
Nairobi City County has since disclosed that the collapsed building had been repeatedly flagged by county enforcement teams in the months leading up to the disaster, raising serious concerns about regulatory compliance and oversight in the construction sector.
Documents from the county’s Urban Planning Department indicate that enforcement operations were carried out at the site in May 2025, July 2025, and December 8, 2025 due to repeated failures to comply with approved construction standards and regulations. Several arrests were reportedly made during these interventions.
The revelation has intensified scrutiny on Nairobi County officials and contractors, with critics questioning why the building remained under construction despite prior warnings.
