Renowned social media activist Nzioka Muli was abducted in Nairobi on Friday night by men believed to be police officers.

According to impeccable sources, Nzioka Muli was abducted by officers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and taken in for questioning over what he knows about the Westgate terror attack. The abduction reportedly followed a series of explosive claims he had made on social media, alleging that NIS Director-General Noordin Haji was responsible for the attack.

Muli’s posts quickly went viral, drawing widespread public attention and sparking intense online debate. Shortly after making the allegations, he was allegedly picked up by security officers under unclear circumstances, raising fresh concerns over enforced disappearances and the targeting of outspoken government critics.

The Westgate Shopping Mall attack was a deadly terrorist assault that took place on 21 September 2013 in Nairobi. Armed militants linked to the Somalia-based extremist group Al-Shabaab stormed the mall, opening fire on shoppers and staff and throwing grenades inside the complex.

The attackers targeted civilians indiscriminately, sparing some Muslims after questioning them, while many others were killed or seriously injured. What began as an ordinary Saturday afternoon quickly turned into a scene of chaos, fear, and bloodshed.

Kenyan security forces responded, leading to a four-day siege as police and military units battled the attackers inside the mall. By the time the operation ended, at least 67 people had been killed and hundreds injured, with victims drawn from several nationalities. The attack shocked Kenya and the international community, exposing major gaps in the country’s security and intelligence systems and prompting significant reforms in counterterrorism operations.

More than a decade later, the Westgate attack remains one of the most painful and controversial episodes in Kenya’s history. Any claims surrounding responsibility for the tragedy continue to carry enormous political and security implications.

Below is what Nzioka Muli posted on social media shortly before his abduction.
