Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that a group of police officers he describes as a “killer squad” has been deployed to coordinate attacks on businesses and residents in Karatina Town.
In a statement posted on social media, Gachagua claimed that the officers, operating under the code name “Nairobi Sierra,” are targeting individuals perceived to be opposed to President William Ruto’s administration.
According to Gachagua, the group first surfaced in January this year when 12 officers allegedly visited the home of Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi before proceeding to Witima ACK Church in Othaya.
He claimed the officers, who were heavily armed, disrupted a church service using guns and tear gas, causing panic among worshippers, including women and children.
Gachagua further alleged that although the officers were identified and recommended for prosecution following the incident, they were instead promoted and assigned new duties.
The former Deputy President now claims that the team has expanded to 15 members and has returned to the Mt Kenya region.
He alleged that the officers are currently operating from the Mathira MP’s residence in Gatura, where they are coordinating plans to disrupt businesses in Karatina Town.
According to Gachagua, the alleged operation would involve attacks on businesses before members of the General Service Unit (GSU) are deployed to restore order.
He also expressed concern for his own security, claiming he was the target of an assassination attempt during the church incident and fears that the officers could be sent to his Wamunyoro home.
“Since I was targeted for assassination then by this killer squad in church, I am apprehensive,” Gachagua stated, adding that despite his concerns, he believes “God is in control.”
