Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel based at Konton Camp in Wajir County have repulsed an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants who ambushed them during a routine patrol.
The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, August 22, 2026, when the soldiers encountered an unknown number of suspected militants while conducting a mobile patrol in the area.
According to security officials, the militants opened fire on the KDF personnel, who immediately responded and engaged the attackers.
The soldiers successfully repulsed the attackers, forcing them to retreat towards their hideouts in the direction of the Somalia border.
All the KDF personnel involved in the patrol were accounted for following the confrontation, with no casualties reported.
Security officers remain on high alert in the area as efforts continue to monitor the situation and prevent further attacks.
The incident comes amid continued security concerns along Kenya’s border with Somalia, where suspected Al-Shabaab militants have previously targeted security personnel and civilians.
