Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has set the political temperature soaring after vowing to take his Democracy for Citizens Party campaigns deep into Luo Nyanza, a region that has long been considered an ODM stronghold, and revealing that Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino will be by his side when he does.
Speaking on Monday when he met a group of Gen Z supporters from the Mt Kenya region, Gachagua made clear that his anti-Ruto crusade knows no regional boundaries and that no amount of intimidation from the ruling establishment will stop him from preaching the wantam gospel across the length and breadth of the country.
He revealed that he had already been in contact with Babu Owino, who has confirmed his willingness to host and accompany Gachagua during the Nyanza visit upon his return from the United States.
“My great friend Babu Owino amepanga kunikaribisha Nyanza nitembee Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay na Kisumu, kwa sababu Wajaluo wananipenda sana,” Gachagua said, drawing loud cheers from those in attendance.

Before the Nyanza visit materialises, Gachagua is set to travel to the United States from Wednesday, where he is expected to meet thousands of Kenyans living in the diaspora and build support for the united opposition’s 2027 agenda on foreign soil.
The announcement of his planned Luo Nyanza tour has already set nerves on edge within ODM circles. There are growing concerns that political leaders in the region who have built their influence on patronage and control of the grassroots will not take kindly to Gachagua’s presence in their territory. Observers warn that attempts to fund and deploy goons to disrupt his visit cannot be ruled out, given the pattern of politically motivated violence that has already been witnessed at Linda Mwananchi rallies in the region.
What is clear is that Gachagua and Babu Owino arriving together in Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay and Kisumu would be one of the most politically explosive moments of the pre-election season, and both the ruling party and ODM’s old guard have every reason to fear what that image would communicate to voters across the country.
