Friends and family of Ivy Anyango are seeking answers following the discovery of her decomposing body in a water reservoir behind Orange County Hostels near Daystar University’s Athi River campus.
Ivy had reportedly been missing since June, around the same time she lost her phone, according to information shared by friends who are now appealing to anyone who interacted with her in the months before her death to come forward.
Friends described Ivy as a kind and cooperative university student who lived with a roommate in Rongai but regularly travelled to Athi River, where she had friends studying at Daystar University.
Before her disappearance, they reportedly communicated with her regularly.
However, contact stopped around June following the loss of her phone, leaving investigators with a crucial period to reconstruct.
The first public reports about the discovery emerged on September 6, a day after a caretaker at Orange County Hostels reported finding the remains of an unidentified woman inside a man-made water reservoir behind the premises.
Police who responded to the scene initially struggled to identify the woman because the body was already decomposed and appeared to have been in the reservoir for some time.
Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered bloodstains on the walls of hostel room A031 and broken windowpanes at the rear of the room.
Investigators suspected that the woman’s body could have been forced through the rear window before being dumped into the reservoir.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, and no suspect has been publicly identified.
The room was reportedly associated with a former occupant identified only as Natasha, who is said to have vacated the premises about a month before the body was discovered.
Crime Scene Investigation officers from Kitengela processed the scene before the remains were transferred to the Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary for identification and a postmortem examination.
Friends have now linked the discovery to Ivy’s disappearance and are urging anyone who saw or communicated with her from June onwards to share information with investigators.
They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who encountered her around Daystar University, Athi River or Orange County Hostels during the period in question.
There are also claims that several people were questioned in connection with the discovery and later released, although this has not been independently confirmed.
The matter has reportedly been brought to the attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), as detectives seek to establish Ivy’s final movements and the circumstances that led to her death.
One of the biggest unanswered questions is what happened between June, when communication with Ivy reportedly stopped, and September 5, when the body was discovered.
For her family and friends, identifying the young woman has brought them closer to understanding what happened, but the circumstances surrounding her final days remain shrouded in mystery.
They are appealing to anyone with credible information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact the DCI and help detectives piece together the events leading to her death.
