A former police officer has been arrested in Nairobi’s OTC area after allegedly impersonating an active police officer and demanding a bribe of KSh 2,000 from a civilian.
The suspect, identified as Police Constable Martin Wambua, was arrested on Saturday at around 4:00 PM by officers from Kamukunji Police Station during a routine patrol.
According to a police report, Wambua, who was previously attached to Central Police Station, was reportedly dressed in a blue police uniform when he allegedly confronted the civilian and demanded the money.
At the time of his arrest, Wambua had reportedly arrested and handcuffed Alex Moseti Omonye, a resident of Limuru, raising suspicions about his activities in the busy Nairobi CBD area.
Preliminary investigations reportedly established that Wambua was a genuine police officer who had deserted duty, according to a police signal dated August 15, 2026.
His alleged conduct of presenting himself as an active officer while demanding money from a member of the public prompted his arrest by the officers on patrol.
