Residents of Mwihoko have raised concerns over rising insecurity after a car owner revealed that thieves stole the tyres from his vehicle in the middle of the night despite its alarm going off throughout the incident.
In a Facebook post, the victim said the theft occurred at around 2:30 a.m. near Tumaini High School, close to Beverly Apartment in Mwihoko.
According to the victim, the thieves managed to remove all the tyres even though the vehicle was fitted with lock nuts and the alarm system was activated.
The property’s caretaker, who was alone at the time, reportedly called the car owner after the alarm kept sounding.
However, she was afraid to go outside by herself.
The owner arrived at around 3:00 a.m., only to discover that the tyres had already been stolen.
The victim further revealed that CCTV cameras captured two suspects carrying out the theft.
Although they had covered themselves with Maasai shukas, their faces were reportedly visible in the footage.
The matter was reported at Mutuya Police Station the following morning.
While at the station, the victim learned that another motorist had filed a similar complaint after two tyres were stolen from a Toyota Vitz near Water Point on the same night.
The victim has called for thorough investigations to establish where the stolen tyres are being sold and urged those in the tyre business to help identify the culprits and curb the growing trend.
