President William Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have suffered a significant political blow after former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo formally joined the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Linda Mwananchi is a rebel faction within ODM, led by the party’s embattled secretary general, Edwin Sifuna. Despite Ruto successfully pulling ODM’s top leadership into his corner, including party leader Dr. Oburu Odinga, Sifuna’s faction has remained defiant and has vowed to play no part in supporting Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
The movement commands a massive following across the country, drawing particularly strong support from the youth who were left feeling politically abandoned following the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in October last year. His death created a vacuum that Linda Mwananchi has steadily moved to fill, positioning itself as the true voice of the Orange movement’s grassroots base.
With Odhiambo now in their ranks, Linda Mwananchi poses an even more serious threat to Ruto’s re-election prospects in 2027. The faction has already signaled its intention to join the United Opposition led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a coalition that continues to grow in both numbers and momentum.
Sifuna warmly welcomed Odhiambo’s decision to join the movement, taking to social media to celebrate her arrival.
“Full parade to welcome Madam President. Welcome to Linda Mwananchi,” Sifuna wrote, tagging Odhiambo directly in his post.
