Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend along Kirichwa Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, on Thursday evening, in a case investigators say is linked to a toxic relationship between the two former partners who both worked for a money lending company along Ngong Road.
According to police and witness accounts, the woman had reportedly separated from the suspect and moved out of his house in Kawangware to stay with her aunt before resuming work on Thursday after being away for several weeks.
Detectives further say the suspect also reported to work earlier in the day allegedly armed with a knife.
Authorities say the woman was walking with colleagues toward the Argwings Kodhek area after work when the suspect allegedly followed her and attacked her, stabbing her multiple times.
She is said to have attempted to run to a nearby clinic for help but collapsed outside the facility and died from her injuries.
Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Patricia Yegon confirmed that members of the public restrained the suspect before police arrived at the scene
. She added that he did not sustain injuries during the incident and that blood stains found on him belonged to the deceased woman.
Police say the suspect was taken to hospital for examination before being returned to custody, as detectives continue investigations ahead of his expected arraignment on a murder charge.
