Gachagua Is a Political Colossus—See How He Was Welcomed in Nyamira County on Tuesday

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua appears to be a man determined to redefine his political journey, judging by the reception he received in Nyamira County on Tuesday.

Gachagua was accompanied by a team of opposition leaders, among them former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, as they rallied support for a united opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Like the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes, Gachagua has staged what many now describe as a remarkable political comeback. After his impeachment, critics predicted that his influence would quickly fade. Instead, he seems to be gaining momentum and positioning himself as a central figure in the emerging opposition movement that seeks to challenge President William Ruto in the next general election.

For President Ruto and his allies, the growing visibility of Gachagua across different regions may be a development they cannot ignore. Political observers argue that the early realignments and the enthusiastic receptions seen in recent tours could shape the direction of the 2027 contest.

In Nyamira, Gachagua and his allies moved through towns and villages engaging residents and preaching their message of change. From roadside gatherings to organised stops, the crowds that turned up signaled keen interest in the opposition’s agenda.

Supporters lined the streets, cheered the motorcade, and listened attentively as the leaders outlined their vision for the country. The warm reception suggests that the political conversation ahead of 2027 is already gaining intensity in regions beyond traditional strongholds.

As the opposition continues its nationwide engagements, the coming months are likely to reveal whether the current momentum can be sustained and translated into a formidable challenge at the ballot.
