Detectives are investigating an incident in which a police officer attached to former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was robbed of his pistol in Muchatha, Kiambu County.
The officer reported that the incident occurred on April 26 at around midnight at Guango bus stop.
He was riding home to Banana on a motorcycle when two men on another bike attacked him using a wooden stick.
The attackers sped off, prompting the officer and his rider to pursue them, not knowing it was a trap.
Upon catching up, an argument ensued as more riders joined in.
The officer fired a warning shot in the air, but the mob became more aggressive and overpowered him.
He sustained head injuries and was robbed of his Beretta pistol loaded with 14 bullets, as well as his mobile phone.
Police have launched investigations, fearing the weapon could be used in further crimes.
