The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) application process for 2026 is a critical milestone for all 2025 KCSE candidates and previous Form Four leavers seeking government-sponsored higher education.

With over 1.4 million slots available across 508 institutions nationwide — including 322,396 university places and over 1.1 million TVET slots — every student who qualifies has an opportunity to pursue further studies.

What is KUCCPS?

KUCCPS is a State Corporation mandated to coordinate the placement of students into public and private universities and colleges in Kenya under Government sponsorship. The placement system is fully automated, merit-based, and designed to ensure transparency and fairness.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for KUCCPS Placement in 2026?

Degree Programmes:

  • 2025 KCSE candidates who scored C+ (plus) and above 
  • Total eligible: 268,714 Kenyan citizens qualified for university placement 

TVET Programmes (Diploma, Certificate, Artisan):

  • Any KCSE grade from A to E 
  • Candidates who sat exams between 2000 and 2025 
  • Total capacity: Over 1.1 million TVET slots available 

Open University of Kenya:

  • Candidates from 2000–2025 with C+ and above can apply for degree programmes

If you are a 2025 KCSE candidate who has not yet secured placement, don’t panic. KUCCPS provides multiple opportunities to revise applications and courses. Keep monitoring:

  • Kenya Utalii College: Diploma in Housekeeping and Laundry Management, Certificate in Front Office Operations, Certificate in Housekeeping and Laundry Operations 
  • 251 Public TVET Colleges, including 33 university TVET institutes 

⚠️ Note: Competitive programmes like Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Engineering were filled in the first application due to high demand and have been removed from the portal .

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Apply/Revise on the KUCCPS Portal

Step 1: Visit the Official KUCCPS Student Portal

Go to: https://students.kuccps.net 

Step 2: Log In to Your Account

You will need:

  • KCSE Index Number (e.g., 12345678901)
  • KCSE Examination Year (2025)
  • Password: Your KCPE Index Number OR Birth Certificate Number 

Step 3: Access the Programme List

On the menu bar, click the “Programme Lists” tab. You will see documents for:

  • KMTC Programmes
  • Degree Cluster Document
  • Degree Programmes
  • Diploma Programmes
  • Certificate Programmes
  • Artisan Programmes

Download the relevant document as a PDF and note down the Programme Codes for the courses you want.

💡 Pro Tip: Check the previous cut-off points in the document. Apply for courses where your cluster weight is higher than the previous year’s cut-off to improve your chances .

Step 4: Enter Your Course Choices

On the menu bar, click “Application/Revision”.

Enter the Programme Codes you noted earlier:

Step 5: Submit Your Application

As you type the codes, the system will:

  • “Fetch Data”
  • “Check Requirements”
  • Display the programme name and confirm if you meet the minimum requirements

Once all data is fetched and displayed, click SUBMIT.

⚠️ Critical Warning: Adding programmes to the “Course Basket” is NOT an application. You MUST click SUBMIT to complete the process .

Step 6: Pay the Application Fee

After clicking SUBMIT, a pop-up box will display payment instructions :

Payment Method:

  • M-Pesa Paybill: 222222 (Government e-Citizen Paybill)
  • Account Number: The e-Citizen Reference Code provided (DO NOT use your M-Pesa transaction code) 
  • Fee: Ksh 1,500

⚠️ Important: Those who had paid during the main application period will not be required to pay again. Your previous payment is already recorded .

Step 7: Confirm Your Submission

After payment, return to the application window and enter the account number in the “Payment REF” slot, then click SUBMIT.

You will receive a confirmation SMS. Keep this as proof of your application.

How to Check Your KUCCPS Placement Status

Method 1: SMS Notification

  • KUCCPS sends SMS notifications to all applicants who have secured provisional placement or have been rejected 

Method 2: Student Portal

  • Log in to students.kuccps.net
  • Check the “Status” section on your dashboard

Method 3: KUCCPS Official Website

  • Visit www.kuccps.ac.ke for announcements and updates

YES. KUCCPS allows students to transfer to different courses for up to two years after joining university, allowing you to pursue programmes that better align with your interests, talents, and career aspirations.

“That doesn’t mean after we conclude all that process, you can’t pick something else. We give you an opportunity to revise, to transfer and we allow students up to two years.”

1. Do I qualify for KUCCPS placement if I scored below C+?

Yes. You qualify for TVET programmes (Diploma, Certificate, Artisan) in public colleges.

2. Can I apply if I sat KCSE before 2025?

Yes, if you sat exams between 2000 and 2025 and have never been placed through KUCCPS. However, degree placement is primarily for fresh KCSE graduates.

3. Does KUCCPS place students in private universities?

Yes. Students placed in private universities are eligible for government loans, but not government sponsorship.

4. How do I know my weighted cluster points?

Log in to the Student Portal. KUCCPS automatically calculates and displays your weighted cluster points. Do NOT attempt to calculate them yourself.
