Kenyans across the political divide have started calls for countrywide protests after the Kenyan government allowed the US government to set up an Ebola quarantine centre at Laikipia Airbase in Nanyuki.

Already, President William Ruto has approved the setup of a quarantine center that will handle US citizens affected by the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.

The US government reportedly bribed senior government officials with Sh 1.7 billion to set up a quarantine centre in Kenya. This move poses a major health risk to over 57 million Kenyans. Kenya, like the rest of African countries, has a very dilapidated health infrastructure. If Ebola strikes in, the consequences will be deadly and hard to deal with.

Now, Kenyans on Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook are preparing for Maandamano to ask the government to stop the construction of the quarantine centre in Nanyuki. Using the hashtags #Maandamano and #Ruto Must Go, Kenyans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with Ruto and his men for ignoring the plight of Kenyans for financial gain.

Here are some posters for Maandamano to protest the government’s move to set up an Ebola quarantine centre in Kenya for Americans, after the US government rejected them despite them being their own citizens.
