Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has continued to show ignorance and incompetence after saying that Kenya is more prepared than the United States on how to handle the Ebola scourge.
The disease has already caused over 1000 deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and Uganda. Addressing a gathering in Nairobi on Friday, Mudavadi, who was appointed by President William Ruto to head a committee on Ebola preparedness in Kenya, said the country has the capacity to handle Ebola, a disease that has no known cure.
Mudavadi spoke amid resistance from Kenyans over America’s setting up an Ebola quarantine center in Kenya. This comes after US authorities banned their own citizens infected with Ebola from setting foot on American soil. Americans allegedly bribed senior Kenyan government officials to enable them to set up a quarantine center at Laikipia Airbase.
The US government parted with Sh 1.7 billion for the setting up of a quarantine facility in Kenya, which will handle American citizens infected with the Ebola virus.
The Ebola virus, particularly the Bundibugyo strain, is very deadly, and no country can contain it, including the United States. And in defence of setting up a quarantine center in Kenya, Mudavadi, who has no public track record on health matters, said Kenya is more prepared to handle Ebola than the United States. This is a joke from Mudavadi since Kenya has no functioning health system and most of its hospitals are dilapidated due to corruption, mismanagement,, and embezzlement of public funds.
