A divorce case is currently ongoing at the Malindi Law Courts involving a woman identified as Martha Wanjiru and her estranged mzungu husband, Joel Fitzpatrick.
According to court documents and information presented before the court, Martha was introduced to the wealthy foreigner by a former friend before the two women reportedly fell out over a chama-related dispute.
Martha is said to have fallen in love with Joel, who later relocated from Dublin, Ireland, to Kenya in May last year.
The couple got married in July, but their union lasted only four months before Martha filed for divorce.
In his testimony, Joel told the court that he transferred KSh 80 million to Martha’s account, believing the money would be used for investment purposes after he moved to Kenya.
Court documents indicate that Martha allegedly purchased a house worth KSh 24.7 million, which was registered in her name. She also acquired two vehicles—a Subaru and a Toyota double cab—both reportedly registered under her name.
Despite the ongoing court battle, Martha is said to be serving as a church elder at a PCEA church, where she continues to preach on Sundays.
Meanwhile, her estranged husband claims he is now facing financial difficulties and is surviving on the support of well-wishers as the divorce proceedings continue.
The matter remains before the court for determination.
