A Mathare politician has reportedly gone missing after being abducted by unknown individuals in broad daylight in Mathare Number 10.
Joel Kariuki Mwai, 45, was allegedly abducted at around 1:30 pm yesterday by several men who identified themselves as police officers.
According to witnesses, Joel was walking from his shop in Mathare Number 10 towards his home when he was approached by a group of men dressed in civilian clothes. The men reportedly claimed to be police officers before forcibly seizing him.
Joel is a well-known local politician who has on several occasions contested for the MCA seat in Mabatini Ward.
Witnesses said he was bundled into a double-cab pickup registration number KBZ 229B and driven away.
Residents who attempted to intervene and stop the alleged abduction were reportedly threatened after the men drew firearms before speeding off with him.
His whereabouts remain unknown, raising concern among family members, friends, and local residents.
Authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of publication, as efforts to establish Joel’s whereabouts continue.
