Former Senior Economic Advisor to President William Ruto, Moses Kuria, has defended the government’s subsidized LPG cylinder distribution programme in Ol Kalou, dismissing claims by critics that the cylinders being issued to residents are substandard.
Taking to his X account, Kuria said residents turned up in large numbers to collect the subsidized gas cylinders at Mirangine DC Headquarters in Githima, Mirangine Ward, describing the exercise as the fulfillment of a promise made to the people.
According to Kuria, the overwhelming response from residents demonstrates that the programme is addressing a genuine need by helping families access clean and affordable cooking energy.
“The people of Ol Kalou are going home smiling because what they asked for is finally being delivered,” Kuria wrote.
He noted that families were receiving LPG cylinders already filled with cooking gas, adding that the initiative is intended to help households transition from traditional cooking methods to cleaner and more affordable energy.
Kuria also dismissed allegations that the cylinders were of poor quality, arguing that the large turnout by residents was proof that the claims lacked merit.
“Those who spent their time saying the cylinders were substandard have been answered by the people themselves. The long queues and happy faces show that the people of Ol Kalou know what they want, and they have chosen development over empty criticism,” he stated.
He added that the programme would help reduce dependence on firewood and charcoal, improve household health by reducing exposure to smoke, and promote the use of clean cooking solutions.
“No more smoke-filled kitchens. No more cooking with firewood when there is a better option. This is real change that families can see and experience every day,” Kuria added.
The subsidized LPG cylinder distribution exercise comes ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, with the programme attracting political attention amid criticism from some quarters over the timing and quality of the cylinders, claims that government officials have strongly denied.
