Prominent city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has warned President William Ruto that he risks suffering a humiliating defeat in the 2027 General Election if he retains Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as his running mate.
Reacting to the outcome of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, Ahmednasir argued that the results should serve as a political wake-up call for the Head of State, saying they expose the challenges Ruto faces in winning back support in the Mt. Kenya region.
According to the Senior Counsel, the Ol Kalou vote presents the President with what he described as two clear political choices ahead of the next General Election.
“Yesterday’s vote in Ol Kalou doesn’t sugarcoat for President William Ruto the plain and transparent truth on the torturous road to 2027,” Ahmednasir wrote on X.
He accused some Kiambu politicians of misleading the President by giving him false assurances about his support in the Mt. Kenya region.
Ahmednasir claimed that the politicians surrounding Ruto command little public backing, alleging that their influence does not extend beyond their immediate family members.
He further argued that retaining Kindiki as Deputy President while believing claims that he can deliver 40 percent of the Mt. Kenya vote would ultimately lead to a humiliating electoral defeat.
Instead, the lawyer urged Ruto to rethink his political strategy and consider selecting a running mate from either the Luo or Luhya communities, saying such a move would improve his chances in 2027.
“Continue listening to the effusive and praiseful lullabies by Kiambu politicians whose support is in single digits and not beyond immediate family members, stick with Prof. Kithure Kindiki and believe their false narrative that he will get 40% of the Mt. Kenya vote and know that a humiliating defeat is certain,” Ahmednasir stated.
He added that the President should return to the political instincts that have helped him build successful alliances in the past.
“Or act the political fox you always have been, pick a Luo or a Luhya running mate (preferably the latter) and hit the road running. The choices are clear. And President Ruto must smell the coffee…by force,” he wrote.
