A man was apprehended by members of the public outside Magunas Supermarket in Kahawa Wendani after he drugged a woman and attempted to withdraw money from her M-Pesa account.

The incident is said to have occurred on Saturday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was allegedly working with two accomplices and had already been flagged by local transport operators and boda boda riders.

It is alleged that the suspect pretended to be familiar with the woman before drugging her and leading her to an M-Pesa shop, where he allegedly attempted to withdraw KSh 6,700 from her account.

The plan was reportedly foiled when a vigilant pickup driver became suspicious and asked the woman whether she knew the man.

Although she appeared weak and disoriented, she reportedly responded that she did not know him.

The response prompted members of the public to intervene.

The two alleged accomplices managed to flee the scene, while the main suspect was cornered and assaulted by an angry crowd before reportedly escaping.
