A dramatic police chase along Kangundo Road ended with the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition and dozens of suspected stolen items.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers attached to Kayole Police Station were on routine patrol near Saika stage when they spotted a motorcycle carrying a rider and two pillion passengers behaving suspiciously.
The suspects reportedly became evasive after noticing the officers and sped off towards Saika Estate, prompting a high-speed chase.
Police intercepted the motorcycle moments later, but the two passengers jumped off and fled in different directions, triggering a foot chase through the estate.
During the pursuit, one of the suspects, identified as 19-year-old Shem Kariuki Ondieki, allegedly dropped an object while attempting to escape.
Officers recovered the item and established that it was a Retay Falcon pistol loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Ondieki was arrested shortly afterwards, while the motorcycle rider, identified as 19-year-old Emanuel Maina Kioi, was also apprehended at the scene.
Police then launched a manhunt for the third suspect, who had escaped into nearby estates.
Detectives later tracked him to Dandora Phase Four, where they raided a house linked to him and arrested Samwel Okoth Ochieng.
During the operation, officers recovered a Ceska pistol magazine loaded with 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 62 assorted mobile phones, electronic items, a Mercedes-Benz ignition key and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
The three suspects are currently being held at Kayole Police Station pending arraignment as investigations continue.
Police believe the suspects could be part of an organised criminal syndicate operating within Nairobi’s Eastlands area.
