Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro and his Thika Town counterpart, Alice Ng’ang’a, have bought shares worth KSh 60 million from struggling national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ).

According to Business Daily:

  • Ndindi Nyoro acquired 10.4 million shares—worth KSh 49 million
  • Alice Ng’ang’a purchased 2.3 million shares—worth KSh 11 million

The transactions were executed at a counter share price of KSh 4.72 as of Tuesday.

Nyoro Now Largest Individual Shareholder

Ndindi Nyoro is now the largest individual shareholder of the listed national carrier. His total purchase of 10,396,251 shares is valued at KSh 49.2 million.

This ranks him as the seventh largest shareholder overall in the loss-making airline.

Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, a close confidant of President William Ruto, bought 2,334,623 shares valued at KSh 11 million. That places her among the top 20 shareholders of Kenya Airways.

 Why This Move Raises Eyebrows

The two politicians have bought into the counter at a time when the National Treasury is actively looking for investors to buy into and turn around the struggling airline.

Key context:

IndicatorFigure
KQ net loss (year ended Dec 2025)KSh 17.1 billion
KQ’s net profit from the previous yearKSh 5.2 billion
Treasury’s planned injectionKSh 258 billion

The Treasury, which remains the largest shareholder of Kenya Airways, plans to bring in a strategic investor to help operationalize and stabilize the carrier.

 What Happens Next

The entry of high-profile political figures as significant shareholders may influence ongoing negotiations with prospective investors. However, the airline has not officially commented on the new share purchases.

Analysts say the move could signal political confidence in KQ’s turnaround—or raise questions about insider timing ahead of the planned strategic investment.
