President William Ruto has announced a significant increase in the salaries of police officers following the completion of a three-phase review of police remuneration.
Speaking during the passing-out parade of police recruits at the National Police Service training college in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, President Ruto said the review had resulted in a substantial increase in the basic pay of entry-level police constables.
Ruto revealed that the basic salary for a police constable has increased from Ksh21,645 to Ksh29,360, representing an increase of about 36 per cent.
“The three-phase review of police remuneration has now been completed. Entry-level basic pay for a police constable has risen from Ksh21,645 to Ksh29,360, an increase of about 36 per cent,” Ruto said.
The President added that officers serving in other ranks had also received upward salary adjustments as part of the remuneration review.
The announcement comes as hundreds of newly trained police recruits formally joined the National Police Service after completing their training at Kiganjo.
Ruto said the improved remuneration was part of efforts to enhance the welfare of police officers and recognise the demanding nature of their work.
The salary review is also expected to boost morale within the police service as officers continue to carry out their mandate of maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and combating crime.
