Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has welcomed veteran media personality Evelyn Waithira Muithirania to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) after she defected from the Jubilee Party.
In a post shared on social media, Gachagua said he received Waithira at his Wamunyoro residence this morning, where she officially announced her decision to join the green party.
Waithira also shared her ambition to become Murang’a County’s next Woman Representative on a DCP ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election.
She contested the seat in the last general election and finished second after garnering more than 100,000 votes, according to Gachagua.
The former Deputy President assured her that DCP party nominations would be free and fair, while urging her to hit the ground running, particularly by mobilising supporters and driving the party’s membership registration exercise.
He also encouraged her to prepare for the party nominations scheduled for next March.
Waithira is among the veteran female vernacular media personalities in the Mount Kenya region. She worked for several leading Kikuyu radio stations before venturing into personal businesses and politics.
Gachagua ended his message with DCP’s slogan, “The future is green,” as the party continues to position itself ahead of the 2027 General Election.
