An undercover police officer attached to a unit fighting violent crime in Nairobi’s Eastlands area has identified the armed suspect captured on viral CCTV footage robbing women at a salon in Saika Estate along Kangundo Road.
The suspect has been identified as “Borte,” who is described as a notorious repeat offender linked to a string of violent crimes in the city.
According to reports, Borte has been involved in criminal activities since 2018.
He was previously arrested in Korogocho while in possession of an AK-47 rifle.
However, despite being arraigned in court, he was reportedly released and is alleged to have resumed his criminal activities.
Sources further claim that several members of his gang were later killed in separate police operations, but Borte continued carrying out robberies and terrorizing residents across Nairobi’s Eastlands.
His identity emerged after CCTV footage showing an armed man robbing women inside a salon in Saika Estate went viral on social media, sparking public outrage and renewed concerns over rising insecurity.
Photos showing the suspect have since been widely shared online as detectives intensify efforts to trace and arrest him.
