Police officers from Holo Police Station in Kisumu West have arrested a suspected serial burglar following a break-in at a shop in Holo Market.
The suspect, identified as Pascal Otieno Ogutu, 27, from Oyugis, Homa Bay County, was apprehended after police responded to a distress call from a member of the public.
According to police, officers found three suspects at the scene armed with crude weapons.
During the operation, Pascal, who was allegedly armed with a panga, confronted the officers, prompting them to fire warning shots into the air before he surrendered and was disarmed.
His two accomplices, however, managed to escape and remain at large.
Police further revealed that after his arrest, Pascal initially identified himself as Erick Ochieng Ogutu in an apparent attempt to conceal his true identity.
A subsequent search at the house where he had been staying with his aunt led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen during previous burglary incidents.
Pascal is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the two escaped suspects and are appealing to members of the public to share any information that could lead to their arrest.
Crude weapons believed to have been used in the criminal activities were also recovered during the operation.
