An Officer Commanding Station (OCS) lost his Jericho pistol magazine and sustained injuries on both hands and legs after a mob turned on police officers who were attempting to rescue a murder suspect from an enraged crowd in Mogoto village, Sagamian location, Narok County.
According to a police report, the incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 1330 hours when officers responded to reports of a mob justice.
The suspect, whose identity and whereabouts remain unclear at the time of this report, was being subjected to mob violence over allegations of murder.
Police officers fired several warning shots into the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd and secure the suspect.
However, the warning shots failed to deter the mob, and the situation quickly escalated.
The officers were forced to scramble for safety and make a tactical withdrawal from the area as the crowd turned hostile.
The OCS from Tendwet Police Station sustained injuries to both hands and legs after being struck with pelted stones .
In the melee, he also lost a Jericho pistol magazine loaded with 7 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Another police officer was hit in the eye with a stone but remains in fair condition, according to the report.
