Do You Know Ndindi Nyoro Co-Owns Sidian Bank With Ruto? No Wonder He Cannot Go Against Him

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro is among a carefully selected group of leaders being deployed by the state to divide the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 presidential election, and the business ties that bind him to President William Ruto explain why his so-called break from the ruling party should be taken with a very large pinch of salt.

The state has long understood that a united Mt Kenya region poses an existential threat to Ruto’s re-election prospects. In response, state functionaries have been running a series of plans designed to fracture the region into competing blocks and neutralise its political weight.

The first attempt involved dispatching Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku to engineer a split between Mt Kenya West and Mt Kenya East. When that plan failed to gain traction, the state moved to plan B, and Ndindi Nyoro is at the centre of it.

After spending nearly two years sitting on the political fence, Nyoro announced on Monday evening at Safari Park Hotel that he had parted ways with the United Democratic Alliance(UDA) and would be throwing his energy behind the People’s Party of Kenya as his new political vehicle. He even went as far as declaring that his party would work with the opposition to prevent Ruto from securing a second term in 2027.

But sources close to the matter paint a very different picture. According to them, Nyoro was handed Sh86 million by the state to fund the launch of the People’s Party of Kenya, a party whose primary purpose is to provide a comfortable political home for Mt Kenya legislators who have been openly supporting the government but know they cannot survive 2027 under the increasingly toxic UDA brand.

What makes Nyoro’s claimed opposition stance even harder to believe is what lies beneath the surface. Those who know the inner workings of his relationship with Ruto point to something far more binding than party membership. Nyoro and Ruto are said to be joint investors in Sidian Bank, and the two are also linked through shareholding in Kenya Power and Lighting Company(KPLC). When two men share that level of financial entanglement, the idea that one of them has genuinely broken ranks with the other becomes almost impossible to accept at face value.

Going forward, sources indicate that Nyoro has been handed a blank cheque when it comes to his campaign spending, with funds being channelled directly from State House. The money will flow, the rallies will happen and the People’s Party of Kenya will make all the right opposition noises, but at the end of the day, the hand signing the cheques is the same hand Nyoro is pretending to oppose.

In Mt Kenya politics, not everything that looks like a rebellion is one.
